Japan Expo

Message par takodori le Mer 19 Avr 2006 - 6:41

Bonjour,

I usually read this forum by using Babel Fish Translation from French to English. But I would like to know what's happening to Japan Expo more precisely.

I understand Japan Expo is an exhibition of Japan animation, right?

I found several screenshots from NARUTO in this forum. Is someone planning to exhibit shogi using the screenshots in Japan Expo?

Merci à l'avance

Hi Mister Takadori.

Yes, we are planning to participate to this year "Japan Expo" edition.
We want to promote shogi as larger as possible and this expo is one of the best and rapid way to do it succesfully. Japan Expo is not only dedicaced to Japanese animation but also the many cultural and touristicla faces of Japan. There will be also the "Igo Frenche federation" participating.

As you know, French young people are fond of Japanese Animation and manga. So using Naruto or other manga/anime "shogi illustrations" maybe one good solution to making them interested by shogi.

If you have any other ideas, let us know! Thanks a lot!

Merci Flo.

I think using SHIKAMARU character will be very good.

I guess exihibiting an Nakato's koma(with moving direction lines, Initial of Enlglish piece Names such as K, R, B etc.., and Kanji character on the face) as well as normal pieces will attract visitors who have not seen actual shogi sets yet. If you like, I hope I can send one set of Nakato's koma.

Regards

To promote Shogi around the world, ISPS is always here and we appreciate much your action!
Since a few demonstration, we are using minishogi sets. For young players it seems to be quite appropriate as they don't need to develop big strategies, but at the same time, they learn most of the pieces quickly.
What is your opinion about this way to introduce Shogi to beginners?

Yes that's it.
The big advantage during demonstrations is that people doesn't have to learn strategies, openings etc... The area is so small that they understand quickly the advantage of the different pieces and a game is played in a few minutes.
That's why we started to use such game as initiation tool since a few weeks. Ans it seems to seduce young players.

Board of minishogi

Message par takodori le Dim 23 Avr 2006 - 11:58

Interesting! Do you have a specific mini-sized board(5x5) for minishogi? If so, how did you obtain the board? Or do you use a normal shogi board?

Mathieu (wormz) has created a small printable pdf containing such a mini-shogiban plus the drawing of the needed pieces.
Then, by distributing it we let people make their own minishogi if they want.
During the demo, we are using the shogiboard of this papersheet and putting the standart shogi pieces on it.
For people who have problems with kanjis, we replace these pieces by the one made for children that I've already shown to you.
<addition a bit later>
You can see it here: http://shogi.alsace.free.fr/images/photos/assomp06/minishogi.jpg
The pic was taken during our last animation:

Thanks for giving me links to the interesting photos and report.

I think using minishogi at first is a good method for people who did not shogi at all before. Please let me know more after you have some more experience of applying it.
